| Secondary Trauma: Strategies for Impacting Individual and Organization Experiences with Secondary Trauma Every year millions of children are exposed to some form of severe traumatic event. The trauma these children suffer is not benign. It can result in serious, chronic emotional and behavioral problems that are very challenging to address. AND... each year those who work with these childre; the social workers, probation officers, mental health professionals are traumitized by the very act of listening or witnessing the events. Helpers who have experienced secondary trauma describe it as being sucked into a vortex that is slowly pulling them downward. Many leave the profession because they have not found a way to effectively deal with the trauma. Lutz' work will bring an opportunity for healing, and a sense of order to the experience of secondary trauma. Through group disucssions, use of self assessment tools, and introduction of both individual and organizational strategies, this consultation will make a difference in people's lives and has been effective in improving retention in organizations. This consultation can be organized based on agency wishes, usually involving day long on site gatherings, phone and on site leadership consultation and strategy building, small group sessions and individual self assesment and planning opportunities. Rates for this consultation are based on agreed upon scope of work. |
